Characteristics
1. They are noted for the absolute gentleness of their
nature. They don't bite the hand that feeds them, the
wives or children of the hand that feeds them, or visitors.
They will, however, be sure to alert you when you receive
visitors.
2. Another outstanding characteristic quite unknown to
other Carolina dog breeders is that they are probably the
world's greatest blood dog. This will only be of interest to
the deer and boar hunters. Once put on the blood of a
deer or hog, nothing deters them until they have found the
quarry. They are silent trackers, and do not bark, so you
have to put a bell on them. When you no longer hear the
bell, you will know the dog is on point. It will stay there
until you come up because these dogs are not attack nor
catch dogs, and will maintain a safe distance from the
wounded quarry.
3. Carolina dogs love to swim and will far outlast a lab in
the water. They make excellent retrievers for water, and
unlike other breeds, do not have the "wet dog" smell. In
fact, they have very little smell about them at any time.
4. Carolina dogs make excellent house dogs. They are
extremely easy to house train and are noted for their
tendency to stay out of the way while in the house. They
are naturally mannerly and non boisterous. They prefer
being an inside dog to an outside dog, but can just as easily
thrive in an outside environment in hot or cold weather.
5. Carolina dogs are easily trained and show an intense
desire to please.
*A Note of Caution*Due to their extreme intelligence, it pays to be as smart as
your dog, if not smarter. These dogs are very observant
and can quickly learn how to open doors, open gates, climb
over or under enclosures, and often use their paws as
"hands".
